Relaxing in Pushkar

After a few long days of shopping in Jaipur, we decided to go to Pushkar City which is known for its temples and huge lake. It is said that the lake was formed when Lord Shiva cried so much and for so long, that the tears created the Holy Pond. Pushkar is also known for its holy temples and has 50 entrances from the temples down to the lake for worship.

We arrived late morning at our hotel (The Desert Palace), which looks over the lake.  It is a Heritage building and is very authentic. The Indians do a wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit, the most delicious fresh lime juice, and the best omelettes – thinking about it gets my  mouth watering!

Feeling as though we had ‘shopped ourselves out’ we headed up to the main shopping centre – what an eclectic conglomeration of anything and everything! It was suggested that we must have a massage,  so I opted for the warm oil dripping massage which involved warm oil dripping down onto my forehead which was so wonderful I fell asleep and was woken up at the end of my hour.

We had dinner at a great little place reminiscent of a hip place of the 70’s.  Then it was up at 5:30 am to join the locals walking to their temples to do their morning prayer and feed all the brahman cattle that roam the streets.

I would love to visit Pushkar again some day and spend a good week or two there!
