Indigo dye

Indigo is a trend at the moment! Everywhere there is Indigo (block prints). whether a bedspread or blouse, dress etc. Indigo could be described as a deep blue with influences between cornflower, violet and blue.
An organic compound, Indigo is important as it is a rare colour. I have been travelling to India the last 3 years and have found this blue violet colour everywhere, and just fell so in love with it! I am so pleased that it is so fashionable at the moment, you could say I am a pig in mud (Dabu) but that is another post.

India has been using Indigo Blue dye dating back to Greek-Roman times. Indigo is said to be one of the most traditional colours of the rainbow and historically Indigo was important economically because blue dyes were rare and are a large part of Indian culture, and are still used in textile dyeing to this day . Although still used extensively, they were a rare commodity in Europe through the Middle ages, and the Portuguese admired the colour so much they discovered a sea route to India and hence started a direct trade with India. Indigo, wonderful Indigo, established many relationships between Europe and India.
