On my last trip to India I was lucky enough to be around for Diwali – a five day hindu festival also known as “festival of lights”.
Whilst the lights at night were spectacular (if you thought the lights of New York City were bright, you MUST visit Jaipur during Diwali as it’s unbelievable), the real spectacle for me were the temporary structures they put up for the festival.
It was amazing watching the city of Jaipur being transformed for Diwali with structures made of bamboo for the scaffolding to make the city look like the Maharaja’s Palace. All the structures are made of bamboo, polystyrene and calico. It was great watching the cutting and chiseling away to make it look so real from a distance. The following pictures show the men working on the bamboo structure – forget about OHS, and the finished gate – which looked amazing!
