A Kurta is a comfortable loose dress/shirt worn in countries such as India.
They traditionally don’t have a collar and are usually knee length and can be worn as a dress or over loose trousers such as Salwars.
It has become popular in the west and has been modified to give it an Indo/Western look. It can be made of very plain cotton for comfort from heat etc or it can be dressed up with embroidery, beading and also made of silk to make it suitable for evening wear.
I like to dress my Kurtas up with Jewellery and sometimes I wear them over light white cotton trousers.
