This gene is a member of the neuroblastoma breakpoint family (NBPF) which consists of dozens of recently duplicated genes primarily located in segmental duplications on human chromosome 1

however| it does not appear to be an active DNA transposon as it is not flanked by terminal inverted repeats

It is also required for normal sperm development

Members of this family are involved in activating or inhibiting apoptosis

This protein has only little activity of internalizing modified low density lipoproteins (LDL), but it can interact with SCARF1 through its extracellular domain. The association of this protein with SCARF1 is suppressed by the presence of scavenger ligands. Alternatively
