Victorian Painted Slate Surround Here's another great looking pieceA nice lookig Victorian painted slate surround. These were a big thing in the Victorian era and used in the less important rooms in larger houses that wanted the look of marble throughout the house without the cost of expensive imported (or local) marble so instead the abundant local slate from Cornwall or Wales was used and painted to look kind of like marble. Often found in bedrooms etc where guests wouldn't go. Not as popular as marble nowadays (or
