The building opened as Asahi Elementary School in 1975, consolidating three schools whose combined enrolment had collapsed from thousands to 351 students. It closed eight years later and was converted to public lodging before Yubari's fiscal collapse in 2006 left it abandoned. Part of the Family School Fureai series.
